Questions, answered straight.
Everything Reno homeowners ask us about remodeling — costs, process, licensing, and more. 22 answers and counting.
General
How long has Banner Construction been in business?
Since 1959 — over 65 years and three generations, making us one of the longest-operating remodeling contractors in Nevada. Most Reno competitors date from the 1990s or 2000s.
What areas do you serve?
Reno, Sparks, Carson City, and the close-in communities: Sun Valley, Spanish Springs, Verdi, Washoe Valley, Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Virginia City, Mound House, and Lockwood. We deliberately stay close to home so our crews and schedules stay tight.
Are you licensed and insured?
Fully. Nevada B-2 Residential & Small Commercial #0072905, plus our own C-1 Plumbing & Heating #0073434, C-2 Electrical #0073993, and C-3 Carpentry #0072906 — bonded, insured, and BBB accredited. Verify any license at nvcontractorsboard.com.
What makes Banner different from other Reno remodelers?
In-house licensed trades. Most remodelers subcontract plumbing, electrical, and carpentry; Banner holds its own licenses in all three. One crew, one schedule, one standard — and one company accountable for everything.
Do you remodel manufactured homes?
Yes — and we're one of the few licensed for it (NV B-1 premanufactured housing). Sun Valley, Lockwood, and Mound House manufactured-home remodels are a Banner specialty.
Estimates & Cost
Are estimates really free?
Always. We come out, walk the project with you, and deliver line-item numbers — no charge, no obligation, no pressure.
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Reno?
Refreshes run roughly $15k–$35k, mid-range remodels $35k–$75k, full custom or layout changes $75k+. See our full cost guide on the blog, then get your kitchen's real number with a free estimate.
How much does a bathroom remodel cost?
Tub-to-shower conversions from about $12k, hall baths roughly $18k–$40k, master suites $35k–$80k+ depending on tile and fixtures. Every bathroom gets a specific number after a walkthrough.
Do you offer line-item pricing?
Yes — cabinets, counters, labor, plumbing, electrical, and allowances broken out so you can see where every dollar goes and adjust scope intelligently.
What about payment schedules?
Payments tie to milestones laid out in your contract — never large sums up front beyond the deposit that secures materials and scheduling.
Process & Timeline
How long does a remodel take?
Bathrooms typically 2–4 weeks; kitchens 4–8 weeks; whole-home interiors vary by scope. Because our trades are in-house, our schedules don't slip waiting on subcontractors.
Can we live in the house during the remodel?
Almost always. We stage work, protect floors and furniture, maintain a working bathroom and kitchen access wherever possible, and clean up daily.
Who manages my project?
A single Banner project lead — one phone number, daily communication, and the authority to solve problems on the spot.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Completely. We scope them in the estimate, pull them under our licenses, and meet every inspector. It's included, not extra.
What happens if you find a surprise behind the wall?
We show you, explain options with real prices, and proceed only with your written change order. Surprises are normal in remodeling; surprise bills are not.
Kitchens & Bathrooms
Can you move walls or relocate plumbing?
Yes — layout changes are where remodels earn their keep, and our in-house C-1 plumbing and C-2 electrical licenses mean we do the rough-in, permits, and inspections ourselves.
Reface or replace cabinets?
If your boxes are sound and the layout works, refacing saves real money. If the layout fights you, replacement pays off. We'll give you an honest read — we do both.
Do you install heated bathroom floors?
Yes — electric radiant under tile with programmable thermostats. Inexpensive during a remodel, loved forever after.
Can you make a bathroom accessible without it looking clinical?
That's the specialty: curbless showers with linear drains, hidden grab-bar blocking, comfort heights — modern accessible design reads as luxury, not hospital.
Commercial
Do you do tenant improvements?
Yes — TIs, office and retail build-outs, and ADA upgrades across Reno–Sparks under our B-2 small commercial license.
Can you work around my business hours?
We phase work and schedule nights or weekends where needed to keep your doors open.
How do commercial estimates work?
Walk us through the space and requirements; we return a scoped, line-item proposal with a realistic schedule you can plan around.
